HackHotel, 1st National Congress of Hotel Cybersecurity, held on October 10 and 11, 2017 in the Auditorium of Tenerife Adán Martín, was born for the restlessness of the hotel entrepreneurs of the Canary Islands, especially those that make up the Hotel Association and Extrahotel of Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro, Ashotel, in the face of recent events related to cybersecurity in some accommodation establishments and other tourist companies.

A sector like the tourist in the Canary Islands, endorsed by what it represents in its GDP, 34%, is now in the spotlight of cybercriminals. Also, more than 30% of the existing employment in the Islands is directly and indirectly related to tourism.

This meeting, organized by Ashotel and co-organized by the Canarian Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Development (Aciisi), of the Government of the Canary Islands, addresses from an overview the aspects of cybersecurity that intervene in the chain of tourist value, taking into account that at the moment we are reaching record numbers of visitors and tourist income, both at the national and regional level.

This professional congress aims to raise the awareness of tourism entrepreneurs and technicians in the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) sector that we must bet even more on prevention and protection, as well as on the incorporation of cybersecurity in the process of innovation.
